Signing up for field trips has become SO much easier now that some smart person has started a Facebook homeschooling group. One kind-hearted mom arranged a couple of time slots for homeschoolers to visit our city's main police station. All I had to do was comment "1 adult and 4 kids at ___time" and then just show up! Sweet! She had set up 3 time slots which were limited to 25 kids per slot. They all got filled up! Love being surrounded by more and more home educators!
We had a great visit and learned a lot. I thought seeing the dispatch/911 center was pretty cool too.
Another neat thing was that the Officer who lead our tour is related to our neighbor (we met him at our 4th of July get togethers)!
Our favorite babysitter took the younger kids and I to the Children's Zoo last week. It was fun to get out and do some hands on learning. We saw 6 or 7 peacocks with their wings fully out! Beautiful! They also had one that was all white! The animals were pretty active. It was as if they were as excited as we were for the beautiful weather! The birds were my favorite on this trip. The coloring of the peacocks, flamingos, and others that I can't name....the details on their wings! Amazing! What gorgeous creations!
In case you were wondering what my children's wing span is....
Another fun event was Middle Sis turning 11 years old! She had a My Little Pony themed party with about 7 other girls! She loved it and had a great time! There is a program online where you can type in your name and it gives you your pony name. We did that for all the guests and let them make name tags and "tails" out of crepe paper. We played some games including "Challege Jenga" (when you move a piece you pick a number and have to do what it says by that number). We had a bunch of snacks and this cute cake that Big Sis decorated!
And, finally, we took a trip to a local park where my boys are planning on doing Eagle Scout projects! Yep, both of them....pretty much at the same time. This should be fun!
