One of our favorite things to do is visit the Omaha zoo. Love it!
Cycling season is here (and my husband is not.....Haha). In this picture he is wearing his team's kit (that's what a cycling outfit is called a "kit"--aren't you glad you know that now?) We had fun watching him in a criterium here in town. He also had his first crash of the season that day--road rash up his right side. Luckily, no one was seriously injured, he walked away and his bike survived.If you are so inclined, you can read some more about Dana's cycling experiences on the Rider blog at his Team's website (all the team members write, so look for his name under post titles to see which are his).
The kids finished their 2nd semester drama class with a production at our church for friends and family. My little ones performed "The Empress's New Hair". Yes, the story is much the "The Emperor's New Clothes", except with hair. In the craziness, I forgot to get a picture of Michaela (the Empress) in her full costume. I did get a quick picture of her with her "no hair" look. Dallin played one of the Empress's trusted advisors, and Stephan was a little boy who was not afraid to tell everyone, "Can't you see that the Empress doesn't have any hair???"Evan performed a funny adaptation from a book their teacher had, it was called "The Robber Hotzenplotz". He and another boy his age performed it together and did a great job. Again, I didn't get a picture of him in costume, so I made him put his hat back on for a quick shot.
Alex and some other girls performed a play called "Five". This play was actually written in the early 80's by Michael McLean. It included the song "You're not Alone", which I am pretty sure my family will remember from back in the day! It is about some girls at a slumber party talking about what they are going to be when they grow up and then, in the second act, they are all grown up and talk about how no matter what happens in life, "You're not Alone". They did an awesome job! Alex spent a good deal of time being freaked out about singing solos, but she was so great! Afterwards, a friend told me "I didn't know Alex could sing!" I replied, "Neither did I!"
Let's see, what else....well, my baby is trying to not be my baby anymore. She is talking more and interacting with everyone and the world more. I love watching her when we go somewhere new...like the park. It is so fun to see the joy on her face as she runs around and slides and plays. I also included a picture of her doing "homework" with her brother and sister. Just adorable!
Evan spent his first week away from home at Scout camp. I was a bit worried, but didn't need to be. He had a great time. I had to take him for a physical before camp and he is officially taller than me! While he was gone, we also had our first official summer day of swimming.
