Heritage School

Heritage school is something fun that my oldest daughter got to do in fourth grade and this past school year my second daughter got to participate as well! For some reason neither of my boys did this in fourth grade, but they DID get to do a science based program called "Starbase" in 5th grade..so don't feel too bad for them.

The students get to experience what a day was like in an old one-room school house classroom in 1892.  They dress the part and even bring a lunch similar to what children back then would have brought.  Notice the "Out-house" porta-potty?

Sitting in the back of the classroom.

The teacher at the head of the classroom.
A small room in the back of the classroom had hooks for coats and hats.  The students left their lunch-buckets on the bench.

Some things they did were math, a spelling bee, recitations, Nebraska history, penmanship, singing, and recess.  They were expected to follow similar rules that a class would back then, such as not speaking unless you are called on and when you speak, you stand up next to your desk. The teacher was very kind and Middle Sis. had a great time!
