My sister-in-law and her two kids came over on Christmas Eve. We had a nice dinner (thanks for the table-loan, Dad!) and played games and watched movies. Sometime earlier that day, I decided we should have a special dessert...but I didn't know what. I looked up some ideas online and saw that rolled-up cake thing with filling in it. I have always wanted to try that! I believe it is called a Yule-log cake. I thought it looked very festive, so I found a simple recipe to try.
I made my favorite chocolate cake recipe (from scratch) and used whipping cream (with sugar & vanilla) for the filling. I then frosted it with whipped chocolate frosting. It turned out pretty yummy (if not the healthiest dessert). And I thought it looked pretty log-ish as well.
In posting this picture, the blogger in me wishes my cake was on a nicer tray and had leaves or something on it...but the mother-of-7 in me thinks...eh, you get the idea (usually the mother-of-7 in me wins).
Our "tradition" for Christmas right now is to stay home in our p.j.s and play and hang out together all day. We had lots of fun things to do together.
Little Sis was super cute! She just hugged her presents and would say, "Ooooooh...I always wanted thissss! Ooooooooohhhh! I just love this!" Here are some random pictures...
I loved how Baby Sis played with her new kitchen--wearing her Cinderella costume--playing with her Cinderella doll. My little princess..
I took this picture because Middle Sis got Roller blades and has been wearing them all day, every day ever since! The quote of the day (if you didn't see my facebook post) was when Middle Sis looked at the bicycle Santa left for her and with a voice of wonder said, " I didn't think I was THAT good this year!" Too cute!
I loved how Little Sis. put on the chef's hat and apron over her p.j.'s...
The biggest surprise of the day was when Big Sis found that Santa had left her an Iphone. Because I don't want her to hate me, I will not post pictures of her that morning...needless to say she was shocked and amazed....and I can honestly say that such a nice gift was not from me.....the Christmas spirit is truly alive and well. Middle Sis. told her, "You must've been REALLY good this year!" I have to say that overall, my children have been "good". As crazy as they make my life, they are each a blessing to our family and I can't imagine life without them!

What a great holiday! And your dessert looks amazing and sounds amazing! I'm like you---as long as it tastes good, I'm willing to let the "presentation" slide--and I don't even have 7 kids for an excuse!
Sounds like a wonderful day. I miss not having little ones around to share Christmas morning with.
But we did make up for it with a noisy kid-filled afternoon with yummy breakfast foods. Remember that tradition?
