September

So, I lost misplaced my camera and then finally found it.  Then, when I had updated pics I wanted to post, I found out the USB ports on my laptop, for some reason, were broken!

{This is what my good friend would call a "1st World" problem!}

Anyhow, pics will come as soon as I can find time (and remember)!

The basement is coming along.  All of the sheetrock/drywall is up for the future boys room and family room.  The boys room needs one more round of sanding, dried glue scraped off the cement floor, and the trim and doors done.

Meanwhile, life goes on.  Oh, how I wish for a giant "PAUSE" button of life!  Raising 7 kids...in case you didn't know, really is a full-time job. So, then add in planning and carrying out school for 5 kids and you have 2 full-time jobs.  Then, add in an unfinished basement that needs to be worked on, extra-curricular activities, church activities, church callings/service, and lots of other unexpected things.   I suppose these are more 1st World problems and I don't mean to complain...only to say that I often wish for a giant "PAUSE" button of life!   Lol!

I do feel blessed, as crazy as it is, to be able to have a big, healthy, crazy family!

Here are some things we have been up to:

Big Sis. completed Drivers Ed over the summer and is slowly getting comfortable driving around town.

Big Bro. turned 14, had a fun video game birthday party, and started his 3rd year as a vendor at the local college football games.

Middle Bro. recently started back at Homeschool PE with Big Bro. as well as chess class.  They also joined a First Lego League team.  Middle Bro. is learning to babysit and is a great help to me around the house.

Middle Sis. started back to tumbling class as well as PE and cooking.  Her reading has grown a lot this summer.  She complained most of the summer as I had her read books to me each day.  Then, a couple of weeks ago, I walked into her room and she was reading her first chapter book...all on her own....because she wanted to!   Yes!

Who's next....Oh, yeah....Little Bro...I can't believe my litttle guy is in 1st grade!   I just love that he still lets me cuddle and squeeze him--most of the time.  He recently started "soccer club" on Saturdays.  He insists on bringing scriptures to primary each Sunday.  I think it's because at the end of Singing time--every week--they sing "Scripture Power" and all the kids hold up their scriptures.  They LOVE that!

Little Sis also started soccer club with her brother.  They separated the 4 year olds from the 5-6 year olds.  The 4 year olds played games and such to get them familiar with moving the ball with their feet.  The 5-6 yr olds (all boys) were split into 2 groups.  They would practice for half the time and then scrimmage for the second half.
During the first practice, Little Sis was still raring to go after all the other 4-year olds wanted to stop, so the coach sent her over to scrimmage with the 5-6 yr old boys.  Not only was she as tall as most of the boys, but she got right in there and did her best to kick the ball like everyone else.  Too cute!

Baby Sis. is just as cute as ever!   She is talking more and more each day.  She also loves to draw.  She drew pictures of our family the other day (she told us who everyone was--she even drew Grandma and Grandpa and Aunt Kara :) and they looked a lot like the people that Little Sis (who is 2 years older) draws.  She also holds pens/pencils more comfortably than Little Bro.  I am no expert--just a mom--but I would say I have a budding artist on my hands!

I am training for my first half-marathon.  I know, I really don't need anything else to do, but I do need to exercise and keep myself healthy.  This summer I started getting up early and running before my kids got up.  That way I don't have "mom guilt" for leaving them and I really do feel better physically and mentally when I exercise.

Big Sis has early morning Seminary (Bible study) during the school year at 6am.  I figured I may as well take advantage of the time and I have been running while she is in class.  Then I do my long runs on Saturday.  It is SO not easy and I am not a morning person.  Most mornings when I get up, I am thinking ,"Ugh!  Why did I sign up for a half marathon!"  But once I get halfway into my run (cause the first mile usually stinks and I want to stop), I feel pretty good and am glad I got up and did it.  So, I guess for me, I would rather say "I'm glad I did", and not "I wish I had"--and that's what gets me up and keeps me going.

Dad's road race season is pretty much done.  This summer he did a couple of out of state races, had a wreck during a race (went to the hospital in an ambulance and everything--he is fine though), and got his share of medals.    Now, he is gearing up for winter training (we are talking up at 4am to go to the gym....and you thought I was crazy!) and some cyclocross.

Gotta go now....(I still have lots to do and no pause button :)!
