Field trip...sort of

Time flies by and I have so much to post about.....first things first, we had a family trip to Worlds of Fun in Kansas City a few weeks ago. A few years ago we discovered this great thing called "Homeschool Day" which allowed us to buy tickets for almost half price and go when most other kids are in school (translation: short lines!).
This time it was quite the adventure. About an hour and a half from home, the transmission went out in our van. Not the best timing! There were many blessings on the way, however.
1-Some phone service worker was stopped just up the road and Dana was able to use his phone.
2-Geico's lovely roadside assistance paid for the tow!
3-We drove both cars so Dana was able to drive back to town to find out about a rental.
4-The town wasn't too far away (we were on a back highway since I-29 was closed)
5-Dana stopped at a little car dealership --the first one he came to-- and they let us rent a car--even drove it out to me!
6-The kids and I got to drive in air conditioning the rest of the way! (didn't work in our van)

When we finally got close I said, "We should start seeing it soon..." Then Alex spotted a different looking building and asked what it was. At first we thought it may be a unique building at Worlds of Fun.
Then she asked, "Is that the temple?"

We could only see the shadow in the distance, but I said, "You know, it could be...I know they are building one down here and I don't know where. So I suppose that could be it!" As we got closer we saw that she was right! What an awesome sight from the highway!
Anyhow, I don't have much time to write so I will just post a few pics for now. Maybe I'll write more later, before I forget everything! Aliyah LOVED the rides. After the log ride she said, "That was AWESOME!" I wish you could have heard the way she said, "Awesome!" It was too cute! She cracked me up because she threw a huge fit when the big kids and dad would go on a ride and she couldn't! This is why I spent most of my time with the little ones at Planet Snoopy! Anyhow, a couple of times, she even pointed to the HUGE adult-type roller coasters and whined, "I wanna go on the roller coaster!" Geesh! A little appropriate fear would be okay, really!
Her big sister Michaela, was the opposite. She had no desire to ride any big rides. She tolerated the log ride, but really didn't like the big drop at the end (which Aliyah thought was "awesome"). Michaela, Steph, and Aliyah LOVED planet snoopy and there were a bunch of rides for the little ones, so they loved it!

One of the favorite rides at Planet Snoopy!

Crying that she can't go on the big ride. She just didn't agree with the height requirement. She kept saying things like, "Dad, I'm bigger!" Or, "But, I AM bigger!"

Gotta love those height requirements!

It was a fun, exhausting day! The drive home was also a challenge. I was going on maybe four hours of sleep. Our drive was longer because we couldn't take the interstate and to top it off, we had to drive through a HUGE storm system! It was brutal! I am SO glad the Lord saw fit to get us home safe and sound!

I remember when you showed no fear on any of the rides. The higher the roller coaster and the faster the better you liked it. Like mother, like daughter?

What an adventure! That's definitely one that won't be forgotten. Glad you ended up safe and sound. I love Aliyah's fearless outlook.

So glad that despite all the inconveniences you were able to have fun! So is Evan really taller than Alex now??
