Halloween '09

This is probably a good time to thank all my family and friends who have passed along costumes to our family over the years. THANK YOU! Even one less costume I have to make--or help make, is a break. I did not have the desire--or a lot of time--to make costumes this year. Luckily my little girls had costumes from our dress-up box. However, my three boys were determined to be characters from the Sonic the Hedgehog video game.

Determined.

So, Friday afternoon--October 30th--I finally made my way to Michael's and bought some felt and huge t-shirts. I spent about $11--not bad for three costumes. I was surprised how quickly they came together and the boys LOVED them! That is the most important thing, I guess!

Anyhow, here's Aliyah as Minnie Mouse--one costume that has gotten a lot of use in our family!
This is at our church's Trunk or Treat.

Another bonus for me was a daughter who is old enough to put her own costume together. Alex wanted to be an 80's girl. Here she is with some friends.

Here's the first picture of "Sonic Heroes".
(Just so you know, Evan has the right amount of spikes on his back--he counted and made sure.)
The boys had me cut eye holes so they could pull the masks down over their faces if they wanted to. I didn't cut holes for Stephan--figuring it might be too hard for him to see through---but that didn't stop him from pulling it down over his face. He is too cute!

Oh, yeah--and Michaela with her classic "when-someone-takes-a-picture-of-me-I-must-do-anything-but-smile" look!

I thought it was too cute when Aliyah started playing with this little doll-thing. Just her size.

After the church, we got some .50 cent corn dogs at Sonic for dinner. Alex went with a friend and the rest of us came home and went around our neighborhood a little bit. Two of our super sweet neighbors put together special treat bags for our kids every year! So sweet!

After many of the houses, the kids would comment on the candy they got....mentioning if they thought it had peanuts or not and if they were going to trade it (with eachother) later. Dana and I were trying to hurry them up because Aliyah kept getting out of her stroller and kind of being a handful.

I even took the kids aside and told them "Just say thank you to the people and go to the next house....you can talk about the candy later...." I had to laugh as I remembered that in my day, we didn't mess around--we figured the faster we went, the more houses we could cover.

It was sweet, though, to see my kids just enjoying the night...not being in a hurry....getting excited about each piece of candy--or not--depending on what it was...with peanut allergies, that is usually the biggest topic. The first thing they do when they go through their stuff is to make a big pile of peanut type candy to give to dad (who then takes it all to work). Then, the trading begins. I don't know what exactly they do, but they love it. Fun memories!

Sounds like you guys had a great holiday! That's too funny about the kids and discussing their candy while trick or treating.

The sonic costumes turned out so great! I might have to have you help me do that for Porter next year. My kids are definitely rushers about trick or treating. On to the next house as quick as they can. The only comment I heard about candy was when the kids were up at a door and the lady started to put candy in Ben's bag and he said "I already got M&M's!". I had to pull him aside and make sure he knew to just say thank you no matter what he got!
