I remember one cold, winter night, in January of 2006. I was leaving Walmart around 11p.m. I was nine months pregnant, pushing a full shopping cart, and the parking lot was covered with thick ice/snow. (Have you ever tried to push a heavy-laden shopping cart through that stuff? Did I mention I was nine months pregnant at the time?)
I walked to the front of the cart and started to pull and jerk the cart through the icy snow to my mini-van. Then, two young men (upper teens/early 20's, clean-cut) who were walking toward the store stopped and asked if I could use some help. I said "Yes!" Then I followed these two "boys" as they seemingly had no problem pushing the cart the rest of the way to my car.
After I thanked them, they smiled and said, "No problem", and took back off toward the store.
That random act of kindness (R.A.K) totally made my day! I was so touched that these two young men did that. It could tell it was totally not a big deal to them. They just saw me and thought I could use some help. I was also touched to know that there are still people out there, who do stuff like that. Sometimes our society seems so self-absorbed. Not necessarily selfish--but just busy with their own lives and own worries.
Now that I think back on that experience, it reminds me to be more mindful of those around me. To help someone who looks like they need help. To perform R.A.K.s. You never know who's life you may touch! Maybe someone will even blog about you.....

Thanks Kori. Its nice to be reminded of the simple but important things in life. I love to go in the store and try to make people smile, that is while I am refereeing my children.
