Higher

A couple weeks ago I was able to go to Kansas City for an event called Time Out For Women.  My friend and I left Friday afternoon.  We enjoyed some down time Friday night and then attended the event on Saturday.

My friend and I entered the conference center on ground level.  We weren't sure where to go at first.  To the left we saw many young women walking to a different event.  These young women were what the world would call pretty.  They all wore VERY high heals, VERY short clothing, and their hair and make up was VERY stylish.  Later that day, I saw a girl with a "Missouri" sash on, so figured it was a beauty pageant of some sort.

Not to say anything bad about those young women...I'm sure they were just trying their best to succeed in that venue.  But it was hard for me not to compare myself to them and feel...well, pretty crappy.   They were exactly what the world tells us is beautiful.   And the world tells us that looks matter.  It is called a "beauty" pageant, after all.

I found it pretty funny as my friend and I walked straight ahead and went up the escalator to our meeting.  As we rode UP, I was glad to get away from that worldly type feeling.   I had to laugh when I looked at our event's theme for the weekend:  "Higher".

I think there were 1500 or so women at our event.  All ages, sizes, shapes, etc.  And all, as far as I could see, were smiling, full of love, and excited to be uplifted by true and inspiring messages that day.

The next time we passed the beauty pageant area, I really didn't feel as bad.  I was so uplifted by the talks and just the feeling of being in the company of so many women who just want to think, live, and believe "higher".
