Little Sis turned 5 this past week!
I love this girl! When she is happy, she beams of happiness! When she is sad, she is in the depths of despair!
Being just older than the "Baby" and younger than a bunch of others, she sometimes gets overlooked. I was happy to focus on her for a day!
I was also happy that Big Sis helped me make a special "princess" cake for her.
Here's a pic of the cake in progress. We found the idea online to frost the sugar cones and then roll them in colored sugar. We put three princesses on the cake, although in the picture above, you can only see one.
Poor Baby Sis was SO sad there were no presents for her to open. After much crying, Big Sis asked Baby Sis, "Do you want me to wrap one of your toys so you can open it?" Baby Sis whimpered, "Yes..." So Big Sis did...kind of...and Baby Sis stopped crying. Silly girl!
Since Little Sis was beaming all day, I think she had a great day! And something about thinking I had a part to play in that happiness makes me a happy mamma!
By the way, I have been keeping my eye out for a good yellow cake recipe for a while now. The recipes I have tried have usually tasted dry or like a sweeter corn bread....Anyhow, I finally found a recipe I liked when I was looking for a Boston Cream Pie recipe for "The Dad"'s birthday.
The Boston Cream Pie turned out amazingly! I liked the taste of the yellow cake so much that I went back and used it for the round part of Little Sis' cake. I found the recipe at the Country Living site!

What a fun birthday! Great job on the cake.
Your Grandpa Rose's favorite was yellow cake with chocolate icing. Guess yellow cake still runs in the family!
Super cute cake! I miss my girl being little so I could do fun stuff like that! And I'm jealous that big sis enjoys crafting and baking!! Sure wish my daughter did! Love you guys!!
