My boys finally got to move into their new basement bedroom this week! Hurray! There are still a few things that need to be done, but enough is done that we were able to move them in!
I have a very minimal budget for this room (pulling money out of thin air-type of budget). It would be nice to be able to pick out whatever I want. However, I do think it's kind of cool have to be creative and innovative and also save money at the same time.
So, I was wracking my brains about the window treatments. The electric company recently put all our wiring underground and happened to leave some long metal poles in our yard. I decided to see if these could work as curtain rods. One day, I was walking around target and saw some bike hooks on clearance for $3. I thought they might work to hold the metal poles (and if they didn't, we could always use them in our garage or something)
A little lot more looking around and I found some shower curtains on clearance as well. They were marked $2.98 each! They are the fabric kind and I thought they just might work as a regular curtain. I bought some metal rings to hang them from and think they match the "industrial" look of the rods pretty well. The only down side is that they are not long enough to touch the floor, but I figure #1-My boys don't care about that and #2-I can always sew fabric to the bottom later if it bugs me that much.
Things have been so busy that I don't even think I blogged about Big Bro's birthday! He had a fun video game party with some friends. I set out the candy and got out of the way! Love that!
Middle Bro. also just had a birthday! We joined in with two other friends and had a triple birthday party at a park last Saturday. It was beautiful weather and we had the park all to ourselves! The boys were given targets, duct tape, and boxes. They formed teams and spent two hours having a nerf gun war. We didn't have the heart to stop them for cupcakes! They were having such a great time!
I brought my little girls with me and I got to sit and watch them play at the park while the boys ran around! It couldn't have worked out better! When it was time to go, we gathered at the pavilion and sang happy birthday and had cupcakes and drinks!
