This past week, we went (with our H.S. group) on a Field trip to the SAC (Strategic Air Command) museum. TheDad was able to come with us and that was great (especially since we left our stroller at home! Yikes!)
There was a lot to see. And a lot for the children to touch and experiment with (I love that since they are going to touch just about everything anyway!).They have a section right now all about satellites. The kids would have loved spending the whole time in this one room. Here, the kids are playing with one of those things that has a ton of blunt nails all sticking down and you press them up from the bottom to make different shapes and pictures.
Big Sis was so happy that some of her good homeschooling freinds were there too! After the "Field trip" part of our day, we were free to explore the rest of the museum on our own.
Little Bro. getting his share of fun! And who wouldn't with all those buttons to push!
Middle Sis getting in on some of the button-pushing fun....
Later, we strolled around the two airplane hangers looking at planes and other war memorabilia. The children weren't as interested, but did love sitting in a cockpit where they could actually touch things and pretend they were really flying. This was another display that was fun to see....

Overall, we had a great time. It was a fun and educational place to visit together and we will definitely go back!

Reconnaissance Dedication
(found on memorial stone at entrance to the museum)
Dedicated to those valiant strategic airborne reconnaissance crewmembers
who gave their lives during the cold war, and to their families whose
sacrifice continues.

We must never forget that freedom is never really free. It is the most
costly thing in the world. Freedom is never paid in a lump sum.
Installments come due every generation. All any of us can do is offer the
generations that follow a chance for freedom.

Fun! Carson would have gone nuts in the cockpit of the plane and all the war memorabilia. He loves that stuff. What does "SAC" stand for in the name of the museum. I doubt we'll ever make it there but its good to know just in case we get the opportunity. Its fun to see them absorbing all that knowledge.
Strategic Air Command....I knew I should've written that in the post!
We took the kids there a few years ago- the adults in the group thought it was more interesting than the kids. Did you see the exhibit on the evolution of stewardess clothing? Some of those outfits were just awful!!!
I'm not that much into planes and war stuff- but it did have some cool stuff and was very educational. They will like it more when they are a bit older!
I'm ashamed to say that I have lived in Nebraska all my life and have never visited the SAC museum, I always think about it as we are driving to Omaha for something else!
